Pulsed Laser Parameter Calculator

Calculate pulse energy, peak power, fluence, and irradiance from any combination of pulsed laser parameters.

Five pulsed laser parameters are mutually constrained: average power, pulse energy, repetition rate, pulse duration, and peak power. Knowing any two of the first three determines the third; knowing pulse energy and duration determines peak power. This calculator accepts any subset of the five quantities as input and solves for the remaining unknowns in two passes, displaying computed values alongside entered ones. Pulse shape (Gaussian or square) sets the peak-to-energy correction factor. An optional beam radius entry unlocks peak fluence (J/cm²) and peak irradiance (W/cm² or GW/cm²), the quantities that govern nonlinear optical processes, ablation thresholds, and laser damage in optics. All five parameters accept a range of unit prefixes from femtojoule to joule and femtosecond to microsecond, covering Ti:sapphire ultrafast through Q-switched nanosecond systems.
