Magnetic Unit Converter

Convert between SI and CGS magnetic units: tesla, gauss, A/m, oersted, and Verdet constant units.

Magnetics literature spans two unit systems: SI (tesla, A/m) and CGS-Gaussian (gauss, oersted), with conversion factors that are non-trivial and frequently misremembered. The Verdet constant — which governs Faraday rotation — adds a third unit family with its own conventions. This converter handles all three quantity groups. Flux Density (B) converts among T, mT, µT, G, and kG (1 T = 10⁴ G). Field Strength (H) converts among A/m, kA/m, and Oe (1 Oe = 1000/(4π) A/m ≈ 79.577 A/m). Verdet Constant converts among rad/(T·m), °/(T·m), and min/(Oe·cm) — the last being the legacy unit common in magneto-optics datasheets (1 min/(Oe·cm) ≈ 290.9 rad/(T·m)). Enter a value in any unit within the selected group to see all equivalent values simultaneously.
