Laser Pulse Calculator

Interconvert laser pulse parameters — average power, pulse energy, repetition rate, pulse duration, and peak power.

Five parameters fully characterize a periodic pulsed laser — average power P_avg, pulse energy E, repetition rate f_rep, pulse duration τ, and peak power P_peak — connected by two relationships: E = P_avg / f_rep and P_peak = E / τ. Knowing any three determines the remaining two. This calculator accepts any three of the five parameters across a wide range of units (fs to µs, Hz to GHz, mW to TW) and solves for the unknowns, also reporting duty cycle D = τ × f_rep. Use it when specifying a pulsed laser for a nonlinear process (where peak power governs), for fluence calculations (where pulse energy governs), or when converting between a manufacturer's average power spec and the peak intensity that arrives at the sample. Unit coverage spans femtosecond oscillators through Q-switched nanosecond systems.
